The Association of Racehorse Owners has voiced significant concerns over the escalating effects of drought, which are intensifying the rising costs of production and breeding. In a statement released on Thursday, the organization depicted the situation as «critical» and urged governmental bodies to address the repercussions of enduring water scarcity.

Kamal Daissaoui, the association's president, expressed his «full support for the legitimate demands» of stakeholders involved. He advocated for the establishment of a «specific program contract for horse racing» between the government and industry professionals. This initiative aims to regulate and develop the sector while providing support for the costs of essential raw materials related to horse breeding and training.

The statement further urged a reorientation of the Royal Horse Encouragement Society (SOREC) towards its core mission of enhancing the equine breed and bolstering the sector's support infrastructure. The association highlighted «the seriousness of the current situation and its negative repercussions on the continuity of horse racing in Morocco».

In light of these challenges, the organization has called for «an urgent meeting» with the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, Water, and Forests. The goal is to address these pressing issues and «reach urgent solutions» to ensure the sector's viability and future.

The drought's impact extends beyond the equestrian field, affecting various sectors, including livestock. This has necessitated a reconstitution of the herd, which has seen a 38% decrease over nine years. This year, Morocco's rainfall deficit has reached 53% compared to the average over the past thirty years.
