National Consumer Day : Key stats boosting protection in Morocco
DR

On the occasion of National Consumer Day, celebrated every March 15, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce reaffirms its commitment to the rights of Moroccan consumers, as stated in a communiqué received by Yabiladi. This day highlights the importance of information and awareness in a context where consumption patterns are rapidly evolving.

In 2024, the Ministry undertook several actions to strengthen consumer protection. A draft law amending Law No. 31-08 was submitted to the General Secretariat of the Government. This proposal provides for the prohibition of unfair commercial practices, regulation of price reductions, and introduces the concept of an «online platform operator» to better regulate online sales.

Simultaneously, inspections have been intensified: 128,100 import control files for industrial products have been processed, resulting in the rejection of 5,583 tons of non-compliant products. Nationwide, more than 300,000 points of sale have been inspected by joint commissions under the supervision of Walis and Governors, uncovering 15,200 violations.

Online commerce has also been subject to increased monitoring, with 200 verification operations of merchant sites to ensure the security of digital transactions.

The Ministry has also strengthened its support for consumer protection associations by signing a third amendment to the three-year agreement with three major federations. Thanks to this partnership, 60 Professional Consumer Desks have been maintained to provide direct assistance to citizens.

Meanwhile, the portal khidmat-almostahlik.ma recorded nearly 93,000 visits and processed 2,600 complaints in 2024, facilitating consumer access to information and support.

To ensure products and services comply with safety standards, the Ministry has continued the modernization of the national quality infrastructure. New technical regulations on construction materials and gas equipment have come into effect, with the introduction of the marking.

Finally, import control has been strengthened with the accreditation of 3 new laboratories and the renewal of 12 others, bringing the total to 14 testing laboratories and 5 inspection companies.
