Moroccan government adopts draft law to enhance journalists' legal status
DR

The Government Council adopted on Thursday in Rabat draft law 27.25, which amends and supplements law 89.13 on the status of professional journalists. The bill, presented by the Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, is part of broader efforts to strengthen the legal framework governing the profession.

This reform is in line with constitutional principles related to freedom of expression and the press, as well as Morocco’s international commitments to human rights and the protection of journalists’ social and professional rights, said government spokesperson Mustapha Baitas during a press briefing following the council meeting.

The bill also seeks to keep pace with ongoing changes in the journalism and media landscape, which have highlighted the need to modernize the legislation regulating the sector. The objective is to ensure the law reflects today’s realities while upholding press freedom within the bounds of legal and ethical standards.
