The Spanish political party Vox wasted no time in reacting to the revival of the «Committee for the Liberation of Ceuta and Melilla», now rebranded as the «Coordination Committee for the Defense of the Kingdom’s Causes».

Speaking to the press on Monday, July 15, José Miguel Tasende, spokesperson for Vox’s Melilla branch, described the Moroccan NGO as an «absurd tool aimed at attacking the autonomous cities», according to Radio Cope. He called the newly named committee a «threat» to Spain and reaffirmed his party’s commitment to vigorously defending the interests of Ceuta and Melilla.

It’s worth noting that on March 11, Vox submitted two written questions urging Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez to formally condemn the initiative to revive the original committee.

During a plenary session in the House of Representatives on July 9, Vox leader Santiago Abascal warned of what he described as a potential «invasion» of Ceuta and Melilla.
