Morocco, together with 30 other Arab-Islamic states, has signed a joint communiqué condemning recent statements by Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the concept of a «Greater Israel». The initiative also received backing from the Arab League, the Gulf Cooperation Council, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
The signatories denounced the Israeli Prime Minister’s remarks as «a blatant disregard and dangerous violation of international law, undermining the foundations of stable international relations. These statements pose a direct threat to Arab national security, the sovereignty of states, as well as to regional and international peace and security».
During an interview on Tuesday, August 13, with the I24 News television channel, Netanyahu voiced his support for the «vision» of a «Greater Israel». Egypt and Jordan were the first countries to condemn his comments.
This rhetorical escalation comes as Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich approved the construction of a settlement designed to separate East Jerusalem from the West Bank, both occupied territories. The decision is seen as an attempt to derail efforts to establish a Palestinian state.
For Israeli extremists, the notion of «Greater Israel» stretches from the Nile in Egypt to the Euphrates in Iraq.
