French-Moroccan MP Naima Moutchou, previously serving as vice-president of the National Assembly, was appointed on Sunday as Minister of Transformation and Public Service, Artificial Intelligence, and Digital Affairs in the newly formed government led by Sébastien Lecornu.
Born in Val d'Oise, north of Paris, to parents from Ouarzazate, Moutchou was also an active member of the France-Morocco friendship group within the National Assembly.
A lawyer by training, Moutchou entered the political arena at an early age, which led to her election to the National Assembly in 2017, representing the fourth constituency of Val-d'Oise.
During her tenure, she served on the National Assembly's Law Commission, became the first vice-president of the LREM group in 2019, and later ascended to vice-president of the Law Commission. From June 2022 to June 2024, she held the position of vice-president of the National Assembly. She was re-elected as deputy on July 7, 2024, and once again as vice-president of the National Assembly on July 19, 2024.
Sébastien Lecornu's new government comprises 18 ministers, including 9 women. The administration is notable for retaining several ministers from the previous government, such as French-Moroccan Rachida Dati, who continues as Minister of Culture.
