Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez is visiting Ceuta on Thursday, November 20, to inaugurate the city’s new maritime terminal and inspect the upgraded port facilities.

The new terminal, completed after 45 months, faced multiple delays and budget increases, ultimately costing 22.4 million euros. The project includes modern infrastructure integrated into the city’s urban layout, featuring a new public square, the relocation of the Hercules statue to another site, and the transformation of the old terminal building into an archaeological hall and maritime museum.

This marks Sanchez’s fourth visit to Ceuta since becoming Prime Minister. His most recent trip was in March 2023 for the opening of the expanded Tarajal health center. He also visited in May 2021 during the migration crisis, and again in March 2022 to tour the port facilities.
