Jamal Sellami, the Moroccan head coach of the Jordanian national football team, said it was «a great honor» to be informed by Crown Prince Hussein that King Abdullah II had requested that the process for granting him Jordanian citizenship be initiated.

Speaking at a press conference following the Arab Cup final, won by Morocco against Jordan, Sellami explained: «After we qualified for the 2026 World Cup, Prince Ali, President of the Jordanian Football Association, spoke to me and asked me to stay in Jordan. I told him at the time that I did not come here to achieve a milestone and then leave, but to build a team. I have a project, and when that project reaches an advanced stage, I will then ask to move on».

Sellami was appointed head coach of Jordan in June 2024, succeeding fellow Moroccan Hussein Ammouta. Under his leadership, Jordan qualified for the 2026 World Cup for the first time in the nation’s history. His current contract with the Jordanian Football Association runs until 2027.
