King Mohammed VI orders opening of 157 new and restored mosques at start of Ramadan

King Mohammed VI has ordered the opening of mosques built, rebuilt, or restored by the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, as well as by benefactors, at the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan. The total number of mosques concerned is 157.

In a statement, the ministry specified that the list includes 95 newly built mosques, 42 reconstructed mosques, eight historical mosques, and 11 restored mosques.

Together, these mosques have a total capacity of 160,000 worshippers, with an overall cost of 647.3 million dirhams.

The Sovereign also approved the opening of the Mohammed VI Mosque and its annexes in Chad’s capital, N’Djamena.

In addition, King Mohammed VI has given his name to the Grand Mosque of Hay Salam in Agadir, which can accommodate 3,600 worshippers and was built at a cost of 62.5 million dirhams, the statement concluded.
