Imam killed during dawn prayer in Driouch after attack by man with mental health issues

In a tragic incident early Friday morning, the imam of a mosque in the commune of M’Hajer, in Driouch Province, was fatally attacked during the dawn prayer. According to local reports, the assailant, said to be suffering from mental health issues, struck the imam with a rod, causing his immediate death and leaving worshippers in shock.

Residents say the suspect had previously been the subject of complaints due to his erratic behavior, with some calling for his placement in a specialized care facility.

After being alerted, officers from the Royal Gendarmerie quickly arrived at the scene and launched an initial investigation. The suspect was arrested and taken into custody, where he is currently being questioned under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor to determine the exact circumstances of the crime.
