Moroccan runner Yassine Hssine broke his own national 200-metre record on Tuesday in Budapest during the Gyulai István Memorial meeting, part of the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold. The 23-year-old athlete completed the distance in 19.92 seconds, shaving a few thousandths off his previous best of 19.97 seconds. That performance was historic in its own right, as it marked the first time a Moroccan sprinter had dipped below the symbolic 20-second barrier in the 200 metres.
This fourth consecutive record set by Yassine Hssine confirms the athlete’s potential, after he significantly improved his 200-metre performances over the past two months. The runner has thus cemented his status as the fastest sprinter in Morocco, as well as in the Arab world.
