The United Nations Security Council's closed-door meeting, initially set for April 24 to address the Western Sahara issue, has been rescheduled to one day earlier. This change is reflected in the latest provisional agenda released by the council's rotating presidency, currently held by Bahrain.

The adjustment comes in response to urgent developments in the Middle East. Specifically, the ceasefire between the United States and Iran is due to lapse overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday, sparking concern among the international community.

On Thursday, Staffan de Mistura, the UN Secretary-General's personal envoy for Western Sahara, alongside Alexander Ivanko, the head of MINURSO, will deliver two reports detailing the region's situation since October 31, 2025, when Resolution 2797 was adopted.

The April 30 meeting, which will focus on the strategic review of MINURSO's mandate as outlined in Resolution 2797, remains on schedule.
