Morocco and Mauritania strengthen security and migration cooperation

Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit received Mauritania’s Minister of Interior, Promotion of Decentralization and Local Development, Mohamed Ahmed Ould Mohamed Lemine, on Friday at the Ministry’s headquarters in Rabat. The Mauritanian minister is visiting the Kingdom on July 17 and 18, 2026.

The meeting comes within the framework of the fraternal ties and fruitful cooperation between Morocco and Mauritania, aiming to strengthen the foundations of South-South cooperation and reaffirm solidarity and joint action in the face of current challenges, the Interior Ministry said in a statement.

On this occasion, the two sides welcomed the distinguished relations between the two countries and reiterated their willingness to continue efforts to elevate cooperation between the two ministries to the level of these privileged ties.

The two ministers also reviewed several issues of common interest, the same source added, noting that the talks particularly focused on the participatory momentum shaping cooperation between the two departments, especially in its security dimensions, as well as matters related to migration and decentralized cooperation.

They agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in areas within the remit of their respective ministries and to further develop mechanisms for consultation and coordination on issues of shared interest, within a framework of mutual trust, solidarity, and partnership serving the interests of the two brotherly countries.

The visit reflects the positive momentum in Moroccan-Mauritanian relations and embodies the shared commitment to advancing bilateral cooperation in the areas under the Interior Ministry’s authority.
