Morocco seeks to boost diaspora investment beyond remittances
DR

Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch said on Friday in Tangier that Moroccans living abroad represent a «real economic, social and investment force», as the government seeks to channel more diaspora remittances into productive investments and job creation.

Speaking at the opening of the National Forum on «Investment and Moroccans of the World», Akhannouch noted that remittances from Moroccans abroad exceeded 122 billion dirhams in 2025. Beyond financial transfers, he stressed that the diaspora also brings valuable expertise, skills and international networks.

According to the head of government, Morocco now aims to build «a new form of economic relationship» with its diaspora by transforming remittances into investments capable of generating wealth, added value, innovation and territorial development.

«Our ambition is clear: to make Morocco the natural destination for investments by Moroccans of the World», Akhannouch said, stressing that diaspora investment is not only an economic issue but also «a strategic bet for the future».

He recalled the royal directives aimed at strengthening institutions dedicated to Moroccans abroad, notably the reform of the Council of the Moroccan Community Abroad and the creation of the Mohammedia Foundation for Moroccans of the World.

Akhannouch also highlighted Morocco’s ongoing economic transformation, saying structural reforms and strategic projects launched under King Mohammed VI have turned the Kingdom into a regional investment hub attracting major investments across several sectors.

In this context, he pointed to the government’s reform of the investment ecosystem, including the new Investment Charter and a 2023-2026 roadmap designed to improve the business climate, simplify administrative procedures and expand digital services for entrepreneurs.

The forum, organized in Tangier by the Ministry of Investment and the department in charge of Moroccans residing abroad, aims to strengthen the role of the diaspora in Morocco’s investment and development strategy. It brings together public and private stakeholders around discussions on productive and sustainable investment, with panels dedicated to diaspora investment and institutional support, financing and facilitation mechanisms.
