King Mohammed VI granted a royal pardon on Saturday to Senegalese fans detained over hooliganism during the 2025 AFCON final between Morocco and Senegal.

«Given the longstanding fraternal ties between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Senegal, and on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, has graciously decided, for humanitarian reasons, to grant His Royal Pardon to the Senegalese supporters convicted of offenses committed during the Africa Cup of Nations competitions organized by the Kingdom of Morocco from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026», the Royal Cabinet said in a statement.

«Through this High Decision, His Majesty the King, may God glorify Him, reaffirms the deep bonds of friendship, brotherhood and cooperation uniting the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Senegal. This pardon also reflects the enduring core values that shape Moroccan identity, foremost among them clemency, benevolence, generosity and a spirit of tolerance», the statement added.

On the occasion of Eid al-Adha, the King also extended his sincere wishes to «His Brother, His Excellency President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, as well as to the Senegalese authorities and the brotherly Senegalese people», according to the same source.

Earlier this month, the Senegalese president had already requested that King Mohammed VI pardon the Senegalese fans detained in Morocco.
