Mamelodi Sundowns were crowned African champions after the second leg of the 2025-2026 CAF Champions League final ended in a 1-1 draw against AS FAR on Sunday evening at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, with the South Africans capitalizing on their 1-0 first-leg win at home.

In a superb atmosphere and in front of packed stands, AS FAR produced a brave and committed performance, putting the South Africans under pressure for much of the match.

The Moroccan club was rewarded in the 40th minute when Mohamed Rabie Hrimat converted a penalty awarded after a foul on Reda Slim, following a VAR review.

Just as the Moroccans looked set to head into the dressing room with the lead, Mamelodi Sundowns struck back in first-half stoppage time through Tebogo Mokoena, who unleashed a powerful shot after a pass from Tashreeq Matthews (45+7).

In the second half, AS FAR continued to push forward in the hope of turning the tie around and won a second penalty in the 77th minute after a foul on Youssef El Fahli. But Hrimat was unable to convert the chance.

Despite sustained pressure from Alexandre Santos’ players until the final minutes, the Sundowns defence stood firm to protect the result and secure the South African club’s second continental title in its history.
