Royal Air Maroc (RAM) on Sunday inaugurated its first direct route between Casablanca and Los Angeles, marking a major milestone in air connectivity between Africa and the U.S. West Coast.

The inaugural flight departed Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca at 4:00 a.m., opening a direct 12-hour connection to Los Angeles, the national carrier said in a statement.

“The launch of this direct route between Casablanca and Los Angeles is a historic milestone for Royal Air Maroc and for African air connectivity,” said RAM Chairman and CEO Hamid Addou.

“By bringing Morocco closer to America’s West Coast, we are reaffirming our role and commitment to enhancing Morocco’s international reach, in this symbolic year when we celebrate 250 years of friendship between Morocco and the United States and when our Atlas Lions are proudly representing the nation at the world’s biggest football event,” he added.

The route will operate three times a week. Flights from Casablanca depart on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 4:00 a.m. local time and arrive in Los Angeles at 8:20 a.m. local time. Return flights leave Los Angeles at 10:20 a.m. local time and land in Casablanca the following day at 5:25 a.m.

The service is operated using modern wide-body aircraft known for their comfort, performance and advanced technology. Passengers will benefit from high-quality onboard service, individual entertainment systems and enhanced comfort designed for long-haul travel.

The launch forms part of Royal Air Maroc’s development plan signed with the Moroccan government in July 2023 and reflects the airline’s ongoing efforts to expand its long-haul network while strengthening Casablanca’s position as a major air hub linking Africa, Europe and the Americas.

According to the airline, the new route responds to growing demand for intercontinental travel and targets members of the Moroccan and African diasporas, American tourists, business travelers and football fans heading to the United States for the global tournament.

The launch further reinforces Royal Air Maroc’s presence in North America, where it already operates direct flights from Casablanca to New York, Washington, Miami, Montreal and Toronto. It also continues the airline’s recent expansion drive, which has included new routes to Beijing, São Paulo and Saint Petersburg.
