A Moroccan citizen who found a wallet lost by a Spanish tourist in Rabat helped ensure its return intact, including all of its contents and a significant amount of cash, according to Spain's Civil Guard.

The wallet belonged to a resident of Arcos de la Frontera, in Spain's Cádiz province, who misplaced it during a trip to the Moroccan capital, local media reported on Monday. After realizing it was missing, he reported the loss to local police.

Days later, the Moroccan who found the wallet handed it directly to a Civil Guard officer stationed at the Spanish Embassy in Rabat, setting in motion an unlikely journey back to its owner.

From Rabat, Civil Guard officers identified the owner, located his home in Arcos and arranged for the wallet to be sent to Madrid via diplomatic mail before it was transferred to Cádiz.

When the owner finally recovered the wallet on June 11, he discovered that not only were all of his personal documents still there, but so was the cash inside, described by the Civil Guard as a «significant amount». In other words, nothing had gone missing except the wallet's brief detour through Rabat.
