Royal Moroccan Navy divers have taken part in a two-day joint training exercise with the British Royal Navy, aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two forces.
The exercise involved personnel from the Gibraltar-based HMS Dagger and the Gibraltar Clearance Diving Element, who traveled to Ksar Sghir Naval Base and Tangier Marina, according to a June 24 statement from the British Royal Navy.
The first day included visits by Moroccan divers aboard HMS Dagger and a British diving support vessel, where crews showcased their equipment and capabilities.
The following day, British and Moroccan divers carried out a joint search-and-rescue training exercise at Ksar Sghir, using specialized sonar equipment to locate a simulated missing person.
Chief Petty Officer Roberts, head of the Gibraltar Diving Element, said the training helped build on skills and relationships developed during an earlier joint exercise while giving Moroccan personnel the opportunity to test new equipment.
The visit also included discussions on expanding future cooperation between the two navies, including the possibility of hosting Royal Moroccan Navy personnel in Gibraltar.
The exercise concluded with naval maneuvers involving the Royal Moroccan Navy patrol vessel GC-133 before the British units returned to Gibraltar.
