BlaBlaCar on Thursday launched its long-distance carpooling platform in Morocco, marking the company's entry into North Africa and expanding its presence to 41 countries, according to a press release.
The platform connects drivers with empty seats to passengers traveling the same route through a non-profit cost-sharing model, targeting growing demand for intercity travel between cities including Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech, Tangier and Fez. BlaBlaCar said the service will complement existing transport networks by offering more flexible travel options where public transport is limited.
On average, each BlaBlaCar trip carries 2.1 passengers, allowing drivers to recover more than half of their fuel and toll costs. The platform automatically calculates each passenger's contribution based on fuel prices and distance while ensuring drivers do not make a profit.
More than 600,000 new drivers joined BlaBlaCar worldwide between March and May 2026.
«Our platform offers a practical solution for travel between cities», said BlaBlaCar co-founder and CEO Nicolas Brusson. «As more people seek to save money while reducing their environmental impact, BlaBlaCar connects drivers and passengers, facilitates cost sharing and helps reduce the number of individual cars on the road».
Founded in France in 2006, BlaBlaCar now has 30 million active members annually and offers verified user profiles, ratings, reviews and a dedicated customer support and moderation team.
