A heatwave and thundery showers, accompanied by a risk of hail and strong wind gusts, are expected from Wednesday to Friday in several provinces across Morocco, the Directorate General of Meteorology (DGM) said.
In an orange-level weather alert, the DGM forecast temperatures of 44 to 46°C from Wednesday to Friday in the provinces of Zagora, Tata, Assa-Zag, Boujdour, Es-Semara, Aousserd and Oued Ed-Dahab.
Over the same period, temperatures of 41 to 44°C are expected in Kenitra, Taounate, Meknes, Fez, Moulay Yacoub, Khemisset, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, Khouribga, Fquih Ben Saleh, Settat, Youssoufia, Rehamna, El Kelaa des Sraghna, Chichaoua, Marrakech and Taroudant.
Temperatures ranging from 38 to 41°C are also forecast in the provinces of Larache, Sale, Rabat, Skhirate-Temara, Nouaceur, Casablanca, Mohammedia, Berrechid, Benslimane, Mediouna, El Jadida, Sidi Bennour, Essaouira, Safi, Ouezzane, Khenifra and Beni Mellal.
In addition, thundery showers bringing 15 to 25 mm of rainfall, accompanied by a risk of hail and strong wind gusts, are expected on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. in the provinces of Taourirt, Jerada, Tinghir and Zagora.
