Canada head coach Jesse Marsch has described facing Morocco in the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup as «a gory, horrible nightmare», praising the Atlas Lions ahead of Saturday's showdown in Houston.

«Preparing for Morocco is like a gory, horrible nightmare. I don't want to watch them play. They're too good,» Marsch said on Wednesday, highlighting Morocco's quality after their dramatic penalty shootout victory over the Netherlands.

The Canadian coach pointed to Morocco's 33-match unbeaten run and praised the team's midfield control, singling out Ismael Saibari, who signed for Bayern Munich on Wednesday after scoring in all three of Morocco's group-stage matches, as well as Yassine Bounou and Achraf Hakimi.

Despite acknowledging Morocco's strength, Marsch said Canada, appearing in the World Cup Round of 16 for the first time in its history, is ready for the challenge.

«We know everybody's going to write us off, but that gives us an opportunity. We're focused on delivering the best performance of our lives,» he said.
