Morocco: Temperatures up to 46°C, hailstorms and strong winds forecast

A heatwave, thundery showers with hail, and strong wind gusts are expected to affect several Moroccan provinces from Thursday through Sunday, the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) said in an orange-level weather alert.

Temperatures ranging from 41°C to 46°C are forecast from Thursday to Sunday in the provinces of Kénitra, Taounate, Meknès, Fès, Moulay Yacoub, Khémisset, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, Khouribga, Fquih Ben Salah, Settat, Youssoufia, Rehamna, El Kelâa des Sraghna, Chichaoua, Marrakech, Taroudant, Zagora, Tata, Assa-Zag, Boujdour, Es-Semara, Aousserd, and Oued Ed-Dahab, the DGM said.

During the same period, temperatures of 38°C to 41°C are expected in the provinces of Larache, Salé, Rabat, Skhirate-Témara, Nouaceur, Casablanca, Mohammedia, Berrechid, Benslimane, Mediouna, El Jadida, Sidi Bennour, Essaouira, Safi, Ouezzane, Khénifra, Béni Mellal, El Hajeb, Ifrane, and Sefrou.

In addition, thundery showers of 15 to 25 mm, accompanied by hail and strong wind gusts, are forecast to affect the provinces of Chichaoua and Taroudant on Thursday between 1 p.m. and 11 p.m.
