Morocco braces for temperatures of up to 46°C this weekend

A heatwave accompanied by strong wind gusts is expected to affect several provinces across Morocco starting Friday, according to an orange-level weather alert issued by the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM).

Temperatures ranging between 42°C and 46°C are forecast from Friday through Sunday in the provinces of Sidi Slimane, El Kelaa des Sraghna, Marrakech, Rehamna, Khémisset, Youssoufia, Fquih Ben Salah, Aousserd, Kenitra, Sidi Kacem, Settat, Chichaoua, Oued Ed-Dahab, Boujdour, Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, Tata, Zagora and Beni Mellal.

During the same period, temperatures of 40°C to 43°C are expected in Errachidia, Sidi Bennour, Safi, Nouaceur, Mediouna, Essaouira, Larache, Tinghir, Taounate, Moulay Yacoub, Fez, Berrechid, Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanane, Meknes, El Hajeb, Sefrou, Taroudant, Khouribga, Khénifra, Guelmim, Benslimane, Ouezzane and Taza.

The DGM also forecasts temperatures between 33°C and 38°C over the same period in Skhirat-Témara, Casablanca, Mohammedia, Rabat, Salé, El Jadida and Ifrane.

In addition, strong wind gusts of 75 to 85 km/h are expected to affect the provinces of Tangier-Assilah and Fahs-Anjra from 10:00 a.m. on Friday until 11:00 p.m. on Saturday.
