The Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection (FM6E) has announced that 38 sites across Morocco have been awarded the international Blue Flag label for the 2026 summer season, setting a new national record.
The list includes 33 beaches, four marinas and leisure ports, and one natural mountain lake, the foundation said in a statement. With 38 certified sites, including five newly designated beaches, Morocco has further consolidated its position as the regional leader in the Blue Flag program while continuing to strengthen its model for sustainable coastal management.
All 28 beaches that received the Blue Flag in 2025 retained the distinction this year. The 2026 edition also welcomes five new additions to the network: Oualidia Grande Plage (Sidi Bennour Province), Tamaris II (Nouaceur Province), Contrebandiers (Skhirat-Témara Prefecture), Sable d'Or (Skhirat-Témara Prefecture), and Amsa (Tétouan Province).
All Blue Flag beaches are part of the Clean Beaches program, led by the foundation in partnership with local authorities, economic stakeholders, community associations and several public institutions, including the Ministries of the Interior, Health and Social Protection, and Equipment and Water.
A total of 55 applications were submitted this year, reflecting growing interest among coastal municipalities and site managers in obtaining the certification. The Blue Flag label is awarded based on four main criteria: bathing water quality, environmental information and education, safety and services, and sustainable site management. Compliance is monitored through unannounced inspections carried out throughout the summer season.
