Prosecutor says Ali Lmrabet arrested over defamation, insults against state bodies

The King's Prosecutor at the Casablanca Criminal Court announced that Ali Lmrabet's arrest at Tangier Airport was carried out on the basis of several outstanding search notices issued against him over suspected acts that constitute criminal offenses under Moroccan law.

The case concerns the publication of a series of online posts deemed criminal in nature, as they allegedly contained defamation and slander targeting individuals and institutions, as well as insults against bodies established by law.

In a statement, the prosecutor said that, acting on instructions from the public prosecutor's office, the suspect was transferred to the headquarters of the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ) in Casablanca, which is leading the investigation. He was placed in police custody to facilitate the inquiry and will be questioned over the alleged offenses, while benefiting from all procedural guarantees provided by law and the presumption of innocence.

The statement added that he will be brought before the public prosecutor's office once the investigation is completed, so that the appropriate legal measures can be taken in light of its findings.
