The inaugural training for the multinational force destined for the Gaza Strip is set to take place in Morocco in the coming weeks, Israeli media outlets reported.
Sources indicate that Morocco, with backing from Israeli security agencies, will play a pivotal role in the future plans concerning the Strip, shouldering the task of training thousands of soldiers for deployment there.
In recent days, U.S. command representatives from Kiryat Gat, home to the civil-military coordination center for the International Stabilization Force, arrived in Rabat. Together with Moroccan military officials, they are orchestrating the force's initial training, which will encompass live-fire exercises, physical fitness training, and more.
Peace Council officials informed Israel's public broadcaster, Kan, that Morocco is gearing up to send around 500 soldiers to Gaza. Thus far, Morocco, Kosovo, Kazakhstan, and Albania have committed troops. However, Indonesia, which had previously stated it would send about 800 soldiers, has yet to join the multinational force.
In its initial phase, the force will operate in zones under Israeli control, tasked with securing «New Rafah», a city anticipated to be built by the United Arab Emirates as a «free zone» without Hamas.
Despite technical advancements, a deployment date for foreign forces into Gaza remains unset, with the earliest possibility being early next year.
Notably, mid-month saw a visit from Nikolay Mladenov, High Representative of the Peace Council in Gaza, who led a high-level delegation to Morocco. This delegation met with Moroccan authorities, including Abdellatif Loudiyi, Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of the National Defense Administration, and the General Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces.
During the visit, an agreement was signed formalizing Morocco's participation in the International Stabilization Force in Gaza, laying out the legal framework for both technical and operational involvement.
