Finland : The main suspect of the knife attack is believed to be Moroccan

Yesterday in Turku, Finland, several people were stabbed by a man who was later identified as an 18-year-old Moroccan. After being shot in the leg by the police, the alleged assailant was arrested. An investigation was then opened by the Finnish authorities and five people were arrested, reports LCI quoting the Twitter account of the Finnish police.

The alleged perpetrator of the stabbing is believed to be , according to the same source, an 18-year-old Moroccan man. Finland now speaks of a «terrorist act» and the investigation opened on Friday is still underway.

Local authorities revealed on Saturday morning that the alleged perpetrator of the events that took place on Friday in Turku (an average-sized city in the west of the country) is an 18-year-old Moroccan. They also said they arrested five people during a raid on an apartment in Turku at night. On Friday, late in the afternoon, several people were stabbed by an individual.

According to the Finnish authorities, two people were killed in the stabbing and eight others were injured. The two dead were Finns. Two Swedes and one Italian are among the wounded.

The police said in a press conference that «the attack was first described as murder». The alert level has been strengthened throughout the country, notably at Helsinki airport and at the capital's transportation stations.

In total, they would be «six suspects in detention,» said Commissioner Markus Laine of the Finnish National Bureau of Investigation.
