The Moroccan police held 18 Riffian activists in preventive detention on Tuesday, 12th of December, including 12 minors, for allegedly committing acts of public disorder last night in the city of Imzouren, reports EFE news agency.

Rioting broke out after the police intervened to disperse a social protest in the Ait Moussa Omar district, a security source told the news agency.

The police operation resulted in the arrest of 33 people, 15 of whom were released later, said the source.

For several months, small demonstrations were held every Sunday in Imzouren to demand the release of the Riffian political prisoners. These recent detentions are part of a series of arrests of alleged members of the Hirak popular movement, states the Spanish agency.

In November, Amnesty International reported that nearly 410 Riffian activists, including Nasser Zefzafi, are currently being tried or serving sentences ranging from six months to 20 years in prison in Casablanca and Al Hoceima.
