The Wydad Athletic Club (WAC) was selected as the African Club of the Year 2017, at the annual Confederation of African Football (CAF) awards on Thursday night in Accra, Ghana, reports MAP news agency.
This recognition comes as the Casablanca team won the Africa CAF Champions League Final held on Saturday 4th of November in Casablanca. WAC secured its first CAF Champions League win since 1992 by scoring 2 aggregated goals in the two football matches against Al Ahly.
In the same ceremony held in the Ghanaian capital, the player, Mohamed Salah has been voted African Footballer of the. With 625 points he managed to win over his colleague in Liverpool, Senegalese Sadio Mane, 507 points and Gabonese Dortmund Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Egypt has also won two other titles, namely Coach of the Year and National Team of the Year.
Meanwhile, Nigeria's Asisat Oshoala was elected Women’s Player of the Year, beating Cameroon’s Gabrielle Aboudi Onguene and South Africa's Chrestina Kgatlana. Zambian Patson Daka was voted Youth Player of the Year.
Two Platinum Awards were presented to the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and the former football star, George Weah, who is now elected President of Liberia.
