Lamia K., a German woman of Moroccan origin who was sentenced last January to death for being a member of the terrorist group «Islamic State in Syria and Iraq», was sentenced to life imprisonment by Central Criminal Court of Baghdad, confirmed the accused's family lawyer to the German weekly Der Spiegel.

In Iraq, a life sentence is equivalent to 15 or 20 years in prison, says L’Economiste.

Lamia K. left Germany and Iraq to join the terrorist organization in Syria with her two daughters, according to Iraqi justice. They then married ISIS fighters. The accused was arrested at the battle of Mosul in 2017.

The German Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that it has been confirmed that vthe death sentence of a German national in Iraq has been commuted to life imprisonment» - without, however, mentioning her name.
