The Moroccan passport is ranked second in North Africa, according to the 2018 Henley Passport Index, reports Le Monde.

The nationals who are allowed to enter foreign countries with almost no prior approval are Japanese 1st, Singaporeans 2nd, French 3rd, Germans and South Koreans.

In North Africa, the Tunisian passport is heading the list with 66 visa-free destinations. The country is followed by Morocco (61), Mauritania (58), Algeria (50) and Egypt (49). According to the index,

«This detailed report highlights the weakness of African passports. This comes in a context where leaders and authorities want to improve the freedom of movement of African nationals inside the continent», indicates Africa Postnews.

This report refers to the idea of creating a passport of the African Union, which was launched in 2016, but is still unrecognized in several countries of the continent including Morocco.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, former Nigerian Finance Minister, recently spent the night at the Marrakech airport because she was carrying the African passport by the AU but not yet recognized by the Moroccan authorities.
