Spokesperson for the UN Secretary General, Stephane Dujarric, announced on Tuesday that Morocco's permanent representative to the United Nations, Omar Hilale, will start a working visit to the Central African Republic (CAR) in his capacity as chair of the Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) for the country.

During the visit, Hilale will be accompanied by UN Assistant-Secretary General for Africa, Bintou Keita, and UN Assistant Secretary-General for Peacebuilding Support, Oscar Fernandez-Taranco, as well as members of the Security Council and member states’ representatives of the Central African Republic Configuration of the UN Peacebuilding Commission.

«The delegation will focus on the main priorities of peacebuilding as well as on the lack of resources in the Central African Republic, including the implementation of the National Plan for Recovery and Peacebuilding, the commissioning of the Special Criminal Court, the preparation of the 2020-2021 elections and the peace process under the African Initiative», pointed out the spokesperson during his daily press briefing in New York.

He added that Hilale and the UN delegation will also hold talks with the president of the Central African Republic, as well as the chairman of the National Assembly, government representatives, MPs, civil society representatives, UN partners and staff.

The delegation will also visit projects supported by the Peacebuilding Fund in Bangui.

It is worth noting that Omar Hilale was recently re-elected to lead the Central African Republic Configuration of the UN Peacebuilding Commission, a subsidiary body of both the Security Council and the General Assembly.
