Police in Denmark have charged 14 people with sharing on social media a graphic video, allegedly depicting the murder of the two Scandinavian mountaineers, killed December in Morocco.

Quoting a communiqué released Thursday by the Danish police, British news agency Reuters reported that twelve people were accused of sharing the video in question on social media «under aggravating and unjustified circumstances».

Two other Danish people were charged with «having publicly and explicitly approved of a terrorist act», the same source added.

«It is not only punishable, it is also offensive to both victims and relatives, and it can be a violent and deeply unpleasant experience for both children, young people and adults to watch it», said Danish police in a statement made public on the same day.

According to the same source, six of the accused are aged between 13 and 18 years old.

For the record, the video in question has not been authenticated yet. After announcing earlier in December that it «had authenticated» said video, the Danish Intelligence services (PET) «rowed back» in a communiqué released on the same day.

PET said that the video is still being «examined». Meanwhile in Morocco, the Public Prosecutor's office announced that the video is being «investigated» by the authorities and informed that the results of the investigation will be announced upon conclusion.

In January, a Danish school warned students’ parents against the spread of the video, after realizing that it has been massively shared among young people and primary school students.

The families of the two victims, Louisa and Maren, have also urged social media users to stop posting the video on their social media profiles.
