Regional integration was one of the topics on the agenda for the second round of the Geneva round table, held on 21 and 22 March, on the Western Sahara issue. This point has not been as widely covered by media as the notion of self-determination.

Nevertheless, Algerian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Ramtane Lamamra, in statements to the press, stressed that in Geneva his country «reiterated the appeal launched a few months ago, in view of the holding of a Council of Foreign Ministers of the Arab Maghreb Union».

For the record, on November 23, Algerian diplomacy sent a letter to the secretary general of the AMU requesting the preparation of a meeting of the executive council of the Union.

«The Algerian demand is unrelated to the royal initiative (November 6, ed). This is purely bilateral, while the Algerian approach is in line with the revival of regional construction», responded the department of Bourita in a statement, published on November 26.

Tunisia will host, from March 26 to 31, a summit of the Arab League. An opportunity for the top diplomats of the five MAU countries to meet on the sidelines of this event. Tunis has already expressed its willingness to organize such a meeting.
