Morocco has officially become the first African country to use the Video Assistant Referee technology (VAR) in an African domestic match, BBC Sport wrote Saturday.

According to the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), VAR made its debut in the local Cup semi-finals held Saturday, making of it the «first time in Africa that the VAR technology is going to be used in a local competition».

The technology was used during the first semi-final between TAS Casablanca and Difaa El Jadida and the second semi-final on Saturday between Hassania Agadir and Maghreb Atletico Tetwan in Marrakech, BBC Sport reported.

A committee from the International Football Federation Board (IFAB) checked up the VAR set-up in the Marrakech Stadium last week.
