Comoros, officially the Union of the Comoros, opened Wednesday a consulate general in the city of Laayoune.
Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans living abroad, Nasser Bourita, and his Comorian counterpart, Mohamed El-Amine Souef, chaired the inauguration ceremony held on the same day.
Speaking to media, Consul General of Comoros in Laayoune Sayed Omar Sayed Hassan welcomed «fraternal» relations between with the Kingdom of Morocco.
Sayed Hassan noted that the opening of a consulate general in Laayoune, «the capital of the Moroccan Sahara», is an «honor» to the Union of the Comoros.
«I hope that other friendly countries of Morocco follow in the footsteps of the Union of the Comoros to show their solidarity and fraternity towards our Moroccan brothers», he said.
For the record, Côte d'Ivoire opened an honorary consulate in Laayoune in June. Gambia had recently announced the upcoming opening of a consulate in Dakhla.
