A joint security operation of the national police, the royal Gendarmerie and Customs at the border post of Guergarat (south of Dakhla), allowed, on Thursday, on the basis of precise information provided by the services of the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), to foil an attempt to traffic seven tons of chira on board a transport truck, registered in Morocco.
A statement by the national police (DGSN) indicates that the truck was subjected to a thorough search with the help of sniffer dogs, adding that this operation resulted in the seizure of seven tons of chira concealed in products and goods intended for export to an African country.
The truck's driver was arrested and remanded in police custody to complete the investigation conducted by the security service with territorial jurisdiction, under the supervision of the public prosecutor's office, with a view to elucidating the ins and outs of this case, identifying all the accomplices and determining the ramifications of these criminal acts in Morocco and at the regional and international levels.
This joint operation is part of the intense and ongoing efforts of the security services at the Guergarat post to combat international trafficking in drugs and psychotropic substances as well as all forms of cross-border crime, the statement concludes.
