Interior minister Abdelouafi Laftit called, Monday in Rabat, on citizens to respect the measures taken by the authorities to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

«The greatest contribution of citizens is to respect the measures taken by authorities», he stressed, in response to the statements made by the members of the Committee of the Interior, local government, housing and urban policy at the House of Representatives during the examination of the draft decree-law 2.20.292 on the provisions relating to the state of health emergency and the procedures for its declaration to combat the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Laftit noted that the interaction of citizens and their respect for the procedures and measures undertaken by the public authorities are likely to protect everyone in the future, calling on citizens to cooperate and to stay at home, unless necessary, with the exception of people on their way to work.

In this regard, he indicated that confinement remains the only solution to curb this epidemic, as it has been proven in some countries, considering that «decisions taken today can only be fully effective after two or three weeks».

In order to reconcile confinement and maintenance of economic activity, an exceptional movement certificate in addition to a working document were issued, the minister recalled, noting in this regard that this measure introduced by the authorities must be respected by everyone in the current situation.

He also said that «we must be frank with each other since this is the destiny of our country for which we are all responsible», adding that «the objective at the moment is to find solutions, something to which Morocco aspires through the Special Fund for the management of the coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19).

The draft decree-law is part of the urgent preventive measures taken by the public authorities to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus – Covid-19.

It provides a legal framework for public authorities to take appropriate measures and to declare a state of health emergency in any region, prefecture, province or commune, or throughout the national territory in case of necessity, whenever the safety of persons is threatened by an epidemic and the situation requires urgent measures to protect them from such diseases and to counter the dangers arising from their spread.
