After a meeting held Friday, the Economic Watch Committee (CVE) examined measures to support informal sector workers affected by compulsory confinement imposed to avoid the spread of the novel coronavirus. The Ministry of Economy, Finance and Administration Reform announced that the issue will be dealt with «in two phases».
According to a press release sent Friday to Yabiladi, the first phase will cover affected «households that have subsidized health insurance (Ramed) and who work in the informal sector». Indeed, these workers will «benefit from subsistence aid», provided by the Special Fund for the Management of the Coronavirus Pandemic launched by King Mohammed VI.
The aid will be distributed as follows : «800 dirhams two-member-or-less households, 1,000 dirhams for three-member households and 1,200 dirhams for four-member-or more households».
To benefit from this, «the breadwinner from households with subsidized health insurance must send the card number of their Ramed membership by text message or call 1212. The Ramed cards that will be accepted are those that were valid on December 31, 2019», explains the ministry.
The same source indicates that «the procedure for registration will start on Monday, March 30, 2020». For its part, «the distribution of financial aid will be done gradually from Monday, April 6».
The same number (1212) can also «be called to provide assistance to households and respond to any complaints they may have». That being said, the ministry warns that «any voluntarily unfounded statement is liable for prosecution».
The second phase concerns households with no subsidized health insurance with breadwinners «operating in the informal sector». The same sums will be granted to them.
An online platform will be created for the same purpose, the same source concludes.
