The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Morocco has jumped to 1,120, according to the recent figures communicated by the head of the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division at the Health Ministry on Monday.

During a daily press briefing, held this afternoon in Rabat, Mohamed Lyoubi said that 3,984 people have so far tested negative for the virus after undergoing tests for coronavirus.

During the last 24 hours, Morocco recorded 11 new deaths, bringing to 80 the number of coronavirus-related deaths in the country. According to the health official, 10 additional people have recovered after testing positive for the virus, bringing to 81 the total number of recoveries in the Kingdom.

During the same press release, Lyoubi indicated that «most of the newly confirmed cases were recorded in the same households and within the same families». «We have noticed that the new epicenters exist within families, with all the members of the same household testing positive for the virus», Lyoubi said.

The official indicated that out of the 8000 people who were in close contact with confirmed coronavirus cases, 230 tested positive for the virus.

For that reason, Lyoubi urged Moroccans to abide by the preventive measures set by the sanitary authorities. He also insisted that family members who are «forced to go out during the lockdown to work or to bring supplies must be very cautious». By the end of his statement, Lyoubi urged Moroccans to «to wear face masks when they go outside».
