Long before the creation of the Algerian state on July 5, 1962, and that of the Polisario in Libya, Tangier hosted the first meeting of the Committee of 24 outside UN headquarters in New York in May 1962. This was followed by the inclusion of the Sahara issue on the agenda of the C24 in 1963, at the initiative of the Kingdom.
Whenever Algeria attempts to sway its allies in Africa and Europe on the Western Sahara issue, Morocco swiftly counters these efforts. Sierra Leone, the Central African Republic, Senegal, and Slovenia stand as concrete examples from the first half of 2024. Last year, Serbia followed a similar path.
