In Kenya, Morocco can count on the Senate. Senators have urged the government to open an embassy in Morocco to mend ties with the Kingdom. The question of withdrawing recognition of the so-called “SADR” remains however exclusively in the hands of the Kenyan government.
Kenyan media this week quoted a letter sent by William Ruto to the Foreign Affairs Ministry of his country where he denies the remarks allegedly attributed to him by MAP on the Sahara issue, after his meeting with the ambassador of Morocco in Nairobi on March 23.
In 1981, King Hassan II of Morocco flew to the Kenyan capital to participate in an Organization of African Unity summit. In Nairobi, he announced that Morocco is ready to agree to a referendum on the self-determination of the Sahara. Three years later, the continental organization said yes to the «Sahrawi Republic’s», bid to join it as a full member.
Charges against Morocco’s OCP branch in Kenya were dropped in mercury fertilizer case. The decision was taken after parties involved in the case reached an agreement.
