Since February 22, Morocco has observed silence regarding the Algerian Hirak. That position was formalized on March 16. However, this «non-interference» in the domestic affairs of the eastern neighbor was not always the policy followed by Rabat.
In an unprecedented move, the Algerian government has warned MINURSO members of kidnapping risks in the Tindouf camps, endorsing the recent recommendations of Spain. The latter has advised its nationals against traveling to the camps.
Morocco’s former Foreign Minister Salaheddine Mezouar resigned from his position as head of the General Confederation of Morocco’s Enterprises. His decision was announced, Sunday, after a Foreign Ministry statement addressed his «irresponsible» comments on political development in Algeria.
