In a new attempt to help Morocco curb migration flows, Spanish Foreign Minister Josep Borrell said that his country has urged the EU to increase financial aid granted to Rabat. This request comes as the Kingdom said it has managed to decrease migrant arrivals in Spain.
The European Commission has commended Morocco’s actions in strengthening control of its border, promising to grant Rabat €110 million to help the country manage migration flows.
Morocco and Spain will be granted 140 million euros to manage the current migration crisis. Rabat will receive 70 million euros to purchase border surveillance equipment, in addition to an annual sum of money.
