Officials in Madrid say Spanish shipowners are in a «complicated situation» as Morocco and the European Union are negotiating a new fisheries treaty. According to them even a new treaty will cause more delay.
The European Union and Morocco have not reached a settlement yet regarding the 2014 fisheries agreement. The latter expires on Saturday, 14th of July.
After three rounds of negotiations have been held in Rabat, Moroccan and European officials are expected to meet again in Brussels in the coming days, in order to conclude a new fisheries agreement.
Lawyer Gilles Devers has lodged an appeal to the Court of Justice of the European Union on behalf of the Polisario Front. The decision comes to put an end to the ongoing negotiations, held to renew the fisheries agreement conducted between Morocco and the EU.
Supporters of the Polisario at the Spanish parliament have submitted a draft bill, largely in favor of the Front. The suggestion was rejected by the People’s Party.
