A new map of multidimensional poverty in Morocco, released by the High Commission for Planning, reveals a significant decline in the poverty rate, from 11.9% in 2014 to 6.8% in 2024. Despite improvements across all regions, spatial disparities remain marked, particularly between urban and rural areas.
In Morocco, the economic loss due to the lack of female employment in rural areas is estimated to be nearly 2.2% of the gross domestic product (GDP). While women's economic inactivity exceeds 80% nationwide and only 19% are employed, HCP recommends actions for empowerment to recognize the «essential but often invisible» contributions of women workers in rural communities.
