40.81.وَيُرِيكُمْ آيَاتِهِ فَأَيَّ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ تُنكِرُونَ

40.81. Dieu vous montre Ses signes. Lequel d'entre eux oserez-vous démentir?

40.81 . And He showeth you His tokens . Which , then , of the tokens of Allah do ye deny?

40.81. Wayureekum ayatihi faayya ayati Allahi tunkiroona

40.82.أَفَلَمْ يَسِيرُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ فَيَنظُرُوا كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ كَانُوا أَكْثَرَ مِنْهُمْ وَأَشَدَّ قُوَّةً وَآثَاراً فِي الْأَرْضِ فَمَا أَغْنَى عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَ

40.82. Que ne parcourent-ils la Terre pour voir ce qu'il est advenu de ceux qui les ont précédés? Bien que l'emportant sur eux par le nombre, la puissance et les vestiges qu'ils ont laissés sur la Terre, ils n'ont pu, malgré tous ces moyens, échapper à leur perte,

40.82 . Have they not travelled in the land to see the nature of the consequence for those before them? They were more numerous than these , and mightier in power and ( in the ) traces ( which they left behind them ) in the earth . But all that they used to earn availed them not .

40.82. Afalam yaseeroo fee al-ardi fayanthuroo kayfa kana AAaqibatu allatheena min qablihim kanoo akthara minhum waashadda quwwatan waatharan fee al-ardi fama aghna AAanhum ma kanoo yaksiboona

40.83.فَلَمَّا جَاءتْهُمْ رُسُلُهُم بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ فَرِحُوا بِمَا عِندَهُم مِّنَ الْعِلْمِ وَحَاقَ بِهِم مَّا كَانُوا بِهِ يَسْتَهْزِئُون

40.83. car, lorsque leurs prophètes venaient les prêcher avec des preuves évidentes à l'appui, ils se prévalaient de la science qu'ils détenaient. Mais les menaces dont ils se moquaient les assaillirent de toutes parts.

40.83 . And when their messengers brought them clear proofs ( of Allah ' s Sovereignty ) they exulted in the knowledge they ( themselves ) possessed . And that which they were wont to mock befell them .

40.83. Falamma jaat-hum rusuluhum bialbayyinati farihoo bima AAindahum mina alAAilmi wahaqa bihim ma kanoo bihi yastahzi-oona

40.84.فَلَمَّا رَأَوْا بَأْسَنَا قَالُوا آمَنَّا بِاللَّهِ وَحْدَهُ وَكَفَرْنَا بِمَا كُنَّا بِهِ مُشْرِكِينَ

40.84. Et c'est seulement lorsqu'ils virent Notre rigueur qu'ils s'écrièrent : «Nous croyons en Dieu Seul et désavouons les idoles que nous Lui avions associées !»

40.84 . Then , when they saw Our doom , they said : We believe in Allah only and reject ( all ) that we used to associate ( with Him ) .

40.84. Falamma raaw ba/sana qaloo amanna biAllahi wahdahu wakafarna bima kunna bihi mushrikeena

40.85.فَلَمْ يَكُ يَنفَعُهُمْ إِيمَانُهُمْ لَمَّا رَأَوْا بَأْسَنَا سُنَّتَ اللَّهِ الَّتِي قَدْ خَلَتْ فِي عِبَادِهِ وَخَسِرَ هُنَالِكَ الْكَافِرُونَ

40.85. Mais cette conversion tardive, en présence du châtiment, ne leur fut d'aucun secours. Telle est la loi que Dieu a toujours appliquée aux générations révolues. Et c'est ainsi que les négateurs devaient tout perdre.

40.85 . But their faith could not avail them when they saw Our doom . This is Allah ' s law which hath ever taken course for his Bondsmen . And then the disbelievers will be ruined .

40.85. Falam yaku yanfaAAuhum eemanuhum lamma raaw ba/sana sunnata Allahi allatee qad khalat fee AAibadihi wakhasira hunalika alkafiroona
