Police operating at the port of Tangier-Med and the customs services foiled, Thursday, an attempt to smuggle 1.22 tonnes of cannabis resin seized onboard a freight transport truck registered abroad.
The inspection operation of the vehicle made it possible to seize the drugs, which were concealed in several locations inside the trailer of the truck, the national police (DGSN) said in a statement.
The driver, a 49-year-old Spanish national, was arrested, according to the same source.
The arrested suspect has been held in police custody at the disposal of the investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent prosecutor's office, in order to identify all persons involved in this case and determine the possible ramifications of this criminal activity, nationally and internationally.
