Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), Inger Andersen, cited Morocco as an example in terms of promotion and investment in renewable energy, on the occasion of the presentation of a new major United Nations report on the environment.

«I would like to cite Morocco as an example (…) of the countries which invested, ten years ago, in renewable energy and which are now major producers of renewable energy from thermal wind and solar power», said Andersen at a joint press conference with the UN Secretary General on the presentation of this important report entitled «Making peace with nature».

The UN official also called on developing countries to invest in nature and initiate the shift in energy transformation, in order to achieve a «renewed economy» that respects the environment.

According to the UNEP report, the world could tackle climate, biodiversity and pollution crises at the same time. These crises, however, require urgent action by the whole society, said UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

«People's choices matter», Guterres said, noting that about two-thirds of global CO2 emissions are linked to households.
